The Cord-Cutter’s Guide to Streaming Live TV
Ditching cable or satellite TV and switching to streaming is becoming more and more popular as prices are rising. Because of this, streaming services are getting better, more cost effective and easier to customize based on your tastes. However, when people cut cable, one of the things they miss the most is being able to watch or record live TV. Luckily, there are several services out there that allow you to stream live TV with ease and at a lower cost than cable. Here are some of our favorites!
Sling is one of the first streaming services of its kind to offer on-demand streaming, as well as the ability to stream live TV. They have two different packages: Sling Blue and Sling Orange. Each package has a selection of 35 different channels for $25 a month. You also can purchase both packages for $40 a month. There are several $5 add-ons, including a Cloud DVR, Kids, Sports and News. They also have on-demand content.
Hulu with Live TV
Hulu recently released their newest package, which comes with 50+ live streaming channels. What makes this service so great is that it also includes access to their extensive on-demand library and original content. Add-ons are available for enhanced DVR and multistream options. Prices start at $40 a month.
DirecTV is one of the first satellite or cable companies to jump on the streaming bandwagon. At $40 a month, this is perfect for those who are used to cable and satellite but are tired of paying the price. They offer a variety of packages, but their base package has 65 live streaming channel and includes on-demand.
Although you do not need a PlayStation console to use PlayStation Vue, this could be a great streaming service for those that already have one. For $45 a month, you can stream 55+ channels and have access to a DVR and can stream on up to five devices at once. They also offer add-ons such as Spanish and sports to get more channels and content.
YouTube TV only has one package, but it has 60+ channels, including local sports and news. One of the things that makes it stand out is the fact that it has unlimited DVR storage and you can have up to 6 accounts in a household. YouTube TV is $40 a month and is available in most metro areas in the Central Valley.
BONUS: Go old school with an antenna
Although this may seem old-school to some, you can get most local channels with an HD antenna. By purchasing and installing an antenna, you can watch local channels over-the-air such as NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS and other local channels. Not all live-streaming services will allow you stream local TV, so this would be a good option to consider in that situation.
